Making a prediction

Making a prediction

A prediction is an educated guess about what a text will be about based on initial clues a writer provides. You can also make predictions about what will happen next in a story as you read.
  • Take breaks during your reading and ask yourself questions about what will happen next, such as,
“How will this character react to this news?”
  • Answer these questions for yourself, supporting your answers with evidence from the text. For example,
“Sam will be jealous when he hears the news, because he is in love with Antonia.”
  • As you continue reading, verify your predictions.
